Audience: 6th – 8th grade 

Class Description:  

In this fun and interactive class by Kat Murray & Hannah Lewis, young artists will dive into the world of printmaking through hands-on projects. We’ll kick off with a playful activity—shading a page and using an eraser to create imaginative designs, sparking creativity. Students will then explore scratchboard techniques to introduce the foundations of printmaking. From there, they’ll sketch their favorite flowers and bugs, transfer those designs onto printing blocks, and learn how to carve and print their creations. By the end of the class, each student will have a beautiful collection of nature-inspired prints to take home. 

Artist Bios:   

Kat Murray and Hannah Lewis bring a wealth of experience and diverse skills to their co-teaching partnership. Kat holds an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Alabama and a BS in Fine Arts from the University of Montevallo. She is a Teaching Artist with the Walker County Arts Alliance and the Workshop Coordinator at PaperWorkers Local.  Kat specializes in printmaking, mixed media, drawing, and ceramics.  

Hannah Lewis has been a Traveling Art Teacher with the Walker County Arts Alliance since January 2024, where they teach art fundamentals to students across various grade levels. As a freelance artist, she works in pottery, printmaking, fiber arts, and watercolors, guiding students in a wide range of artistic processes, from clay work to 2D and fiber arts. Together, they combine their expertise to offer a dynamic, hands-on learning experience in the arts.
