Dearest gentle reader, should you wish to elevate your correspondence to the highest ranks of refinement, allow us to present The Elegant Hand, an introduction to the timeless art of calligraphy. In this graceful beginnerfriendly workshop, you will learn the foundational strokes, letterforms, and flourishes that once adorned the invitations, declarations, and secret missives of Regency society. Guided by expert instruction, you will practice with traditional tools and explore techniques for achieving balance, rhythm, and artistry in every line. By session’s end, you shall depart with beautifully penned pieces—and the confidence to continue crafting elegant script worthy of any noble occasion.
Artist Bio:
Carrie Towns is a Birmingham-based calligrapher and engraver specializing in Copperplate calligraphy and refined hand lettering. With over a decade of experience, she creates custom calligraphy for weddings, events, and bespoke gifting, with services that include envelope addressing, engraving, and on-site personalization. Formally trained in Copperplate, Carrie is known for her attention to detail and her ability to bring a sense of timeless elegance to modern work. Her teaching focuses on making traditional calligraphic principles approachable, guiding students through foundational techniques with clarity and intention. She serves clients throughout Alabama and beyond and is pleased to share the art of calligraphy in a welcoming and accessible setting.
